3 Keys to a successful collaboration with Dr Chris Rego

My most enjoyable and fruitful collaboration began in 1996 with Dr Chris Rego at the Manchester Metropolitan University. We worked on chemical vapour deposition of diamond films focusing on growth, modelling and applications jointly supervising students, publishing peer reviewed papers and presenting at international conferences. We started with just £5K of start up investment used to build a custom built home made hot filament CVD system. The keys to our success were:

1. Very focused research activity with 3 objectives i) publish as many peer reviewed papers ii) keep the students happy with advice and motivation iii) keep the equipment running at all times.
2) Complementary and supportive personalities. We were both willing to go the extra mile for each other.
3) Similar ambition in career progression on academia. We both wanted each other to do well in our careers and saw research as the key.

The visit will extended our work using the world class modelling expertise of Prof Zvelindovsky’s group at UCLAN.
